Long gone are the days when the professional drifters stuck a turbo or two onto the four-bangers that came with whatever car they were racing and made the best of it.
It turns out turbo lag and sudden spikes in power makes precision driving even more difficult. So top-level drifters have turned to the tried-and-true formula of big V8's that generate tons of torque on command to help them make those big old smokey drifts in tandem.
We found this video from Ford Performance where Vaughn Gittin Jr., one of the top drift pilots in the business, discusses what makes his famous Mustang go. It's pretty interesting.
